i was talking to an englishman several weeks ago. asked how he feels about romania. what's his take - piece of heaven or hellhole? believe it or not he was a bit fond of this elaborate mess we call our homeland. but he managed to define romanians very accurately, in so few words: the most "romanian" thing that he can think of is shrugging, he said. everybody knows there are problems.but
everybody just shrugs instead of trying to solve them. and i just shrugged. what was there to say?

he went on to say that everybody complains about how fucked we all are and how we'll never get out of this mess. but nobody takes five minutes to say "well,
we have some problems, how do we get started in solving them?". he couldn't be more right. and this is a true story. sad, but true.

mint rubbing and sictir - premium romanian exports. is there another way? we had some things going for us just half a century ago. no one fucked with us, we were on the map. not any more. we're just an "emerging market" second rate country now. we're glad we don't need a visa to go to europe anymore. we sing and dance to the launch of the euro and beg to be admitted in the EU this decade. they say "jump!", we say "how high?". i mean, how low can you go?

half a century of mind control and now we're all stupid. yeah, don't "fuck you" me. i'll say it again. we're all stupid. you're the stupidest person i've met. besides me, of course. so here i am, whining again. but there's more to it than whining. because there are things that can be done and they sure as hell don't involve IMF agreements and WB structural adjustment loans.

just wake up next morning and look in the mirror. are you pleased with yourself?

work is not that exciting, there's no glamour in it; thinking is out of fashion nowadays. so sorry for the interruption. just click here and forget about it. isn't this what this internet thing is all about?
